HFOs and TFA: The Growing Threat of PFAS
Welcome a new speaker to this session, joining our other confirmed experts, to discuss why f-gases such as HFOs are considered PFAS, and how TFA is spreading in the environment and human blood with potential health impacts.
Cora Young, Associate Professor and Rogers Chair in Chemistry at the York University, and a pioneer in TFA research, will present her latest study that links trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) in the atmosphere to short-lived f-gases like HFO-1234yf.

Industry News: National Supermarket Association (NSA) Seeks Support for Transition to Natural Refrigerants in New York
The NSA, a New York-based trade association representing about 1,200 independent supermarkets across the New York metropolitan area and other East Coast cities, has outlined its concerns regarding New York State’s updated HFC regulations in a new position paper for NY policymakers.
The paper, “Closing the Compliance Gap: Why New York’s Independent Supermarkets Need More Than Mandates to Transition to Natural Refrigerants”, was prepared by the NSA in partnership with ATMOsphere and distributor Ozone Refrigeration. It calls for additional state incentives, better financing, and other measures to enable the installation of natural refrigerant-based systems to comply with regulations. The NSA and some of its supermarket members will discuss this issue at ATMO America 2026.
